BT --> SKY: to jump or not to jump...

Been with BT for almost ten years now. No problems as such, we have phone line / broadband with them, and You View.
Now they have decided the monthly will leap up to almost 40 notes, and they don't want to negotiate anything sensible.
Mrs CHL reckons she can get a good basic deal with SKY for about £18 pm; landline & unlimited broadband etc (we hardly ever use the landline phone so that bit is not a big deal for us).
Anybody got any (sensible) experience of Sky (apart from 'they are wankers'... yeah we know, they are ALL wankers)?
Please don't suggest Virgin - I'm not giving Branson fuck all, the elitist money grubbing Remainer kant.

No, there are companies out there that offer broadband without needing a landline and is not cable, VFast were one of the 1st to offer this, although the coverage wasn't great.

I wouldn't give Branson the drippings off my nose after his behaviour over Brexit, the fucking colluding Remainer bastard, even if he was a tenner all up.
Shame though, as the landline is pretty much meaningless to us, we have twin package on the mobiles which gives us unlimited calls anyway.

Wow, a blinding array of responses already, think I might just sit out and let the Mrs sort it :-)
I reckon it'll just be basic Sky, and stick a Kodi on it for my sports needs etc.
It's the justification that's a problem; I watch very little, I think the only things I've watched right through to date in the last year are Breaking Bad, Homeland and Bosch. And you're talking Netflix / Amazon for those!

Don't make the move to Sky Q, I had it at my Ex's (my fault I had it put in) at the moment there is a "you are experiencing b\\band connectivity issues" message on the screen when all is fine. Sky admitted its new tech so still a bit buggy and some are getting this message, the recent software upgrade doesn't seem to have resolved it.
For Broadband, the best I have used to date is Virgin fibre. Have you looked at those who offer broadband without the need for a telephone line?

Currently pay a month
£21 - BT Infinity unlimited and land line (get BT sport1)
£18 - SKY Box Set (basic SKY + family docs... History, Discovery etc with all Box sets... so everything Apart from Sports and Movies)
£4 - Sportsnation (All SKY Sports and BT Sports in top notch streamed HD)
Films all free via Kodi Box and WOOKIE-LITE
So £43-00 a month for the lot

Bertie, you can get Sky Atlantic on the Kodi 4Horsemen add-on! Easy.
Despite all views of Murdoch/Branson.. Fibre Optic is the way to go internet wise. We pay £32 a month, and can have 4 of us all streaming, downloading, gaming etc at the same time with no lag.
As others have mentioned though, depends on your location and what is available to you.

Yeah we've made the calls, mate, no dice. We've kept them nailed down on price for a good few years, but I guess they've just gotten greedy again. It's currently 26pm all up with BTS thrown in.
We've had a few probs with them... You View box playing up etc, they didn't knock themselves out to sort it but we got there in the end. No better or worse in that respect, I'd say.

As difficult as it is to say, nothing beats Sky. I pay £120+ a month for Q, multi room, phone and internet.
Does the bizzo to my 50", 60" and 75" screens.

I've recently gone from sky to bt. Pay About £60 a month for line rental, inclusive calls all day, broadband fairly basic tv with sports thrown in, but the clincher was three mobile sims with unlimited calls and 2mb data.
The broadband hub has significantly better range than the sky one, the bt wifi hotspots are very good, you piggyback on local bt hubs.
The tv is worse than sky, not too much of an issue as I have a kodi box, although I do miss sky Atlantic. The bt mobile service is better than the Vodafone one I had. So overall I am happy so far.

If you phone BT and tell them your leaving they will almost definitly offer you some discounts to stay.
If your service is reliable is another reason to stay. I've been with different providers and some are just shit especially when you have an issue.

I have Sky for Fibre and landline (which I don't use) for £20 a month all in. Was £37 a month, rang them up to switch to Plusnet and they offered £20 a month, bang. Can't get it cheaper.
I dunno about the service because it's always worked so i've never had to ring them! The only time I did was to cancel, I guess that says something?
